Winter Feeding #1

To ensuring your beehives are well-prepared with at least 10 kg of winter supplies is essential for their survival during the cold months. This stockpile serves as their primary food source when foraging becomes impossible due to harsh weather conditions., or flowers to forage on. Adequate stores not only prevent starvation but also support heat generation within the hive, crucial for maintaining bee health and reducing the risk of diseases like Nosema. Well-fed bees are more likely to emerge in spring strong, ready to work, and less dependent on early supplemental feeding, making this an investment in the future productivity and sustainability of your apiary.

Additionally, it is vital to ensure that each hive has at least one full ideal of honey reserves before winter sets in. If this condition is not met, it is advisable to start feeding the bees sugar syrup at a ratio of 2:1 (sugar to water by weight). This supplemental feeding strategy helps to boost the bees' food stores, ensuring they have sufficient energy to maintain the hive temperature and survive the winter months when natural food sources are scarce. Together, these practices ensure a thriving colony ready to spring into action once warmer weather returns.
